I am delighted to announce the publication of this new book focusing on Texas Women Artists, and their contributions to the art of Texas and the World. Published for CASETA: Center for the Advancement and Study of Early Texas Art, by Texas A&M University Press. It is now available from TAMU Press and other sources. This beautiful and invaluable book has been the work of many hands over several years.
I’m honored and proud to have been one of those involved in the project, as author of two chapters on Houston Women Artists:
There will be a celebration and signing for the book at the upcoming CASETA Symposium and Texas Art Fair, in Houston, 4:30-6 PM, Friday, June 21, 2024. The authors and editor will be on hand for a once-and-only opportunity to have your copy signed by all! I hope to see many of you there.
On another topic, my recent piece I AM BORN put subscriber Larry L. in mind of a favorite observation by the Argentine comic-strip writer and cartoonist, Quino , remembered from his youth in Argentina. Larry translated that piece and shared it with me for my enjoyment. And he’s given me permission to share it with you. How nice it is to know that my piece resonated with Larry - and maybe others of you. Enjoy!
Next Wednesday I’ll be launching my long promised new novella, LEFT BANK ON THE BAYOU - A QUEER HOUSTON STORY OF THE 1930s. I’ll be publishing it in serial parts every Wednesday until finished. Not sure how many Wednesdays that will be - 10 parts already done, but more in the works. This is a sequel to my previous novella of last winter, SONG OF THE AMOROUS FROGS - A PARIS STORY OF THE 1920s. You can catch up on that earlier one by clicking the title link. This time, I’ll be setting LEFT BANK up as a separate section so you can easily find all the parts at once (after they’re published) from the link on the navigation ribbon on my Substack cover page (and also opt out if you find it’s not for you, though I hope you won’t do that, of course). On Sundays I’ll continue publishing the various other things you’ve indulged me by reading for these many months now. Hope you enjoy the new piece (let me know if you do - and if you don’t). Thanks for being with me on this exploration.
And finally … If you like reading good writing (I take that as a given since you already subscribe to my Substack), have an interest in urban sustainability, and have even just a little love for Paris, I suggest you have a look at The Tryphena Project, the Substack space of a young American making a new life (for now, anyway) in The City of Light.
You are so amazing! I have no idea how much you have done, all terrific things!
Congratulations on the book!
