My husband and I were out of town during Beryl, but we were very concerned about house and our friends. Thankfully, we never lost power and were able to have a friend stay until she got her power back.
I’m honestly ready to leave Houston, although I would miss our friends and the vibrancy of this city. It’s just not sustainable without shoring up the grid, and the political & monetary will to do that is lacking. I’m tired of worrying about hurricanes, crypto farms, overpopulation, and other energy drains.
We've thought about moving too, but not sure where we would go. At this point, neither of us have ties anywhere else, so anywhere would be starting over for us - and we're already so far along for that sort of major task. But it is a tempting thought. Maybe for a while now we'll at least have a little calmer weather in which to think about it. Best to you both (and to the friend - who I know was grateful for the respite you could offer her!)
Its been a really strange time for us all. As for me, dental surgery, then a stomach virus and then Beryl with it's power outage. Now our tree in front has a big crack and our alarm system is acting wonky. Our sewer clogged day before yesterday but luckily the city responded ASAP. Now today power went out again but luckily for only an hour and a half. But, because of PTSD I was assuming there was no telling when we would get it back . Even with all this, where else would seem like home ??!!
Yes, PTSD (Power Termination Serenity Destruction)! All these trials on top of trials start to seem like one of those Biblical tests. But it sounds like you're passing - and I mean that in the "still living and surviving" way! Looking forward to seeing you this evening.
Lovely to see the painting and see your writing. Our girls got to learn how to adapt with heat and dark night, and most importantly no electronic! We felt grateful when the A/C is back. We love Houston so much even with hurricanes and kept thinking positive and would be ready for our annual future adventures.
I love your positive outlook. I will try to emulate it - but I have a hard time staying positive when the A/C is out! Seriously, though, your family's example of adapting is one we (I) all would benefit by cultivating. Thanks for sharing.
Even if you never make chicken soup again you did make it once. Nature on the other hand makes trees continuously. Look to her for renewal she never fails.
Your positive take on renewal is heartening. Thanks for sharing a gleam of light. And thanks to nature for continuing to make those trees - and for aiming those old, falling ones in a direction AWAY from our house. Because Nature is wonderful - but needs to stay outside! And hope your heat wave has cooled by now.

Hoping they'll get our Beryl trash today. Haven't minded waiting, so much trash, so few workers. Hard, hot work. We will overcome!
Did they get the Beryl trash? Will be glad when they do. Seeing it everywhere everyday is a bummer. But I know it's a big job.
